When ultrasonic act on the contact surface of thermoplastic, they generate high-frequency vibrations of several tens of thousands per second. This high-frequency vibration with a certain amplitude transmits ultrasonic energy to the welding area through the weld piece. Since the sound resistance at the welding area (the interface between the two welded parts) is large, local high temperatures are generated. Also, because the plastic has poor heat conductivity, it cannot dissipate the heat in time and accumulates in the welding area. This causes the contact surface of the two plastics to melt rapidly. With certain pressure, they fuse together as a whole.
